360 Bottom Mount Camera Case DJi Mavic 2 DJi Mavic PRO Mount

Mounting Insta360 One X at different distances below the DJi Mavic Pro 2

I wanted to test how the distance between the (Insta360 One X) camera and the Mavic Pro affects the amount of drone that remains in the image. I used a DJi Mavic 2 Pro here but it’ll be the same with the zoom or Mavic Pro or Platinum.

To mount the Insta360 One X to the Mavic I used 5 different lengths :

Insta360XDroneSizeAtMultipleLengths

It’s safe to say that anything over 40cm/16 inches isn’t worth it as the drone doesn’t shrink a lot more after that. Here’s what the Insta360 One X footage looks like :

To connect the Insta360 One X to the Mavic 2 I used our Mavic 2 bottom mount but it’ll work the same way if you use our Mavic 1 bottom mount. This was connected to our Insta360 One X Selfiemount and extended with our GoPro Extenders. If you move the camera further than a 10cm below the Mavic you’ll notice serious vibration so I used our double hinged mount to overcome that.

  1. Hi, thanks for testing and sharing! A question before buying this setup:

*I’m thinking of buying just the Mavic air Mount, the Insta360 One X Selfiemount and no extra extender, which will be 20cm bellow the mavic air instead of 40cm.

Will I get vibrations or do is it a MUST to get the double hinged mount as well to get rid of all vibrations?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Raul,

Thanks for the interest in my mounts.

I’ll play with it again tomorrow & film the result.

      1. Hello Jean-Marie, were you able to test with the setup mentioned above for vibrations etc? I’d love to see your results.

        Thank you in advance!

  2. Looking to do something similar on a Mavic 2 Pro (or Inspire 1, or both), ideally mount a single insta360 One X, but also am thinking about two (top/bottom) if stitching the footage together works as will be filming in non sky environments (so difficult to hide drone) – what setup wound you recommend Jean-Marie?

    Thanks,

    1. Hi Shariff,

It all depends on the scene of course.

If you have nothing but sky above it’s easy to remove a single cam below but if there are trees above or you’re working indoor a double camera is better. You can check my YouTube channel for a couple of video’s using both techniques :

      I’m working on a retractable Inspire (1 & 2) landing gear as well :

  3. Thanks Jean-Marie, yes saw the inspire mount the other day – looks like that could be a great option. Will check out the other video re removing using a double set up. Keep up the great work!

    1. Hi Raul,

The Mavic Air really is to light for the extenders and will get into a ‘pendulum of death’.

You have to keep the Insta360 as close as possible to the body (top or bottom) of the drone.

      Regards,
      Jean-Marie Cannie

      1. Oh I see, even on the light insta 360 one x. Can you show me examples of it with extender and one
Without an extender on the bottom of the drone ?

If I use no extender, will it be really hard to later mask out the drone above ?

        Thanks.

  5. Hi Raul,

The closer to the drone the harder it is of course.

You could try 2 camera’s. I’ll try how far I can stretch the Air later this week.

    Regards,
    Jean-Marie Cannie

    1. Unfortunately I only have one camera.

Thank you for doing those tests later this week. As soon as you give me your best results I’ll order as I need the mounts to be in Colorado by March 1st for a job.

Thank you, I really appreciate your work.

  6. Hi Jean-Marie, So should the best results will be with the Mavic air Mount and the GoPro Stabilizer With Integrated Springs ? This is for Mavic Air with insta360 One X. Or can I go without the GoPro Stabilizer With Integrated Springs? I want no vibration at all for professional video work.

    Thanks
